Welcome to the Teaching Tools blog.
This has information from the TAS PD day and is designed to help you set up blogs and wikis in your classroom.

What is a blog?

A blog is an online journal that can have one or multiple editors. It is a series of articles, most often in reverse chronological order. Students can have their own blog or comment on a class blog set up by a teacher. There are numerous web-based applications you can use to set up a blog. I recommend edublogs for free blogs that are designed for educators.

To set up a blog go to http://edublogs.org/
1. Go to teachers, librarians, educators and click start here

2. Add your username, email address, fill in the verification field and click Gimme a blog!

3. Name your blog domain – this will be the web address eg. tashistory

4. Put in the blog title (can be different to the domain). This is the title that will show up on the page (you can change this later)

5. Click Signup

6. You will have been sent an email, click on the link to activate your blog

7. The link in your email will direct you here, write down this password (you can change it after you have logged in)

8. Click on Login with username and password (it’s in the email)

9. Your blog is set up and ready to go. You can now post to it (write an entry) and customize the presentation

10. By clicking on the links on the dashboard, you can write a post, update your profile, change your password, manage comments and change your site’s look and feel (with easy to use templates)

Here are a couple of video tutorials on using Wordpress (same as Edublogs)

Short one:
